5 tips for better teamwork

By Tom Banks

We all know the importance of teamwork to a successful business. Not only do strong teams fuel creativity, efficiency and productivity, but they also help strengthen relationships and boost job satisfaction. But bringing together diverse teams isn’t always easy, especially when you’re working with a remote workforce. So to help you get started, we’ve come up with 5 ways to guarantee better teamwork – and keep your team happy at the same time.

Communication is key

With many teams scattered across different time zones and offices, it can seem like a challenge to ensure everyone remains in the loop. Yet communication is vital to successful teamwork. As a manager, you should be constantly encouraging your team to voice their opinions and share their ideas, even if you can’t arrange daily face-to-face catch-ups.

Email and office messaging platforms are useful for this, but videoconferencing is so much better. Video calling for business lets your team members join in the conversation in real-time, wherever they are in the world.

Everybody should work towards a collective goal

If everybody has a different goal, nothing is going to get done. To keep everyone motivated and working in sync, it’s essential that the whole team has a collective goal. Before you set out on any project, arrange a video call to make sure everyone knows what the short and long term objectives are, and what they all have to do to achieve them.

Encourage a sense of belonging

A happy team is a productive team. And if even one member is feeling unhappy, the whole project will suffer. So don’t ever neglect your remote workers. While they may not physically be in the office, it’s essential they’re made to feel like a valued part of the team. That’s where videoconferencing comes in handy. Through regular video meetings, you can catch-up face-to-face from anywhere in the world, building stronger relationships and a happier team in the process.

Prioritize creativity and innovation

Being dismissive of other people’s ideas is a surefire way to stifle creativity. Instead, use a weekly video call to hear ideas from all of your team. Sure, some of them won’t work. But if you don’t take the time to explore them you’ll never know.

Make decisions together

Big decisions should never be made alone. Before signing off on anything major, make sure you consult your team. Having extra opinions will let you consider all the possible pros and cons of the decision, and ensure everybody feels valued. Not only that, but being transparent about the decision making process will build trust. And when it comes to fostering good teamwork, nothing could be more important.
